Robotics: The amazing artificial intelligence

We are living in the 21st century- period of industry 4.0. Rapid development in technology improves the quality of people’s lives remarkably in many different ways. Robot is one of greatest artificial helpers in a lot of fields. It makes me really interested in knowing more about it and make my own. Trimester 1 this year, I am really excited to take Robotics to learn basic coding and how robots work. I and my partner, Will Shaffer, initially began our first robot mostly based on the instruction from the book so we can learn faster before making our own model. The first model ran pretty smoothly but the speed did not meet out expectations. With experiences getting from building the first robot, we made a new robot using long axes, smallest gears connecting with biggest gears in order to attain the maximum speed the motors can provide. Moreover, we removed as many beams as possible to reduce the weight. As the result, the robot ran so fast in the first trial on the road. It flew up on the pavement that we cannot chase to stop that happen. After some recording and calculation, the speed of this model is 5mph which is a bit faster than jogging speed. We are still working on improving the robot using some bump sensors to make the robot turn whenever it hits the wall or any obstacles. Overall, I am really happy with my decision to sign up for this class and expecting to see more extraordinary things from every group.
